Less than one week to the start of EMO MILANO 2021, the world exhibition of the manufacturing industry scheduled to take place at fieramilano rho from 4 to 9 october

28.09.2021 -

EMO MILANO 2021, the world exhibition dedicated to the manufacturing industry of machine tools, robots, automation systems, digital and additive technologies, scheduled at fieramilano Rho, from the next Monday, 4 October to Saturday 9 October, will take place under the best auspices.

Promoted by CECIMO, the European Association of Machine Tool Industries, and organised by UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, the Italian machine tools, robots and automation systems manufacturers' association, EMO will be held again in Milan after six years and after the success of the 2015 edition. Actually, it will be the first internationally important trade show for the sector after almost two years of forced stop.

Regarded as the event of reference for the international operators of the manufacturing industry, the World Exhibition will have 700 exhibitors, of whom 60% are from abroad, coming from 34 countries. The 6 halls set up for the occasion will house 3,500 machines, accounting for a value of over half billion euro.

With its 110,000 square meters of total exhibition area, EMO MILANO 2021 is getting ready to welcome visitors coming from over 50 countries, as highlighted by the visitors’ accreditation data registered so far, attesting to the positive economic moment, in which the exhibition will be taking place.

This is confirmed by the forecasts 2021 concerning the Italian manufacturing industry of machine tools, robots and automation processed by the Economic Studies Department & Business Culture of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, which revised upwards the estimates presented before the summer break.

In particular, the Italian output of machine tools, robots and automation will grow by 22% to 6.3 billion euro. This outcome is due to the excellent trend of Italian manufacturers’ deliveries, as well as to exports, which will achieve the amount of 3.4 billion euro, i.e. 19% more than in 2020.

Based on ISTAT data processed by UCIMU, in the first six months of 2021 (latest available data), the main export countries for the Italian machine tool offering were Germany (+64.4%), the United States (+8.7%), China (-16.5%), Poland (+77.8%) and France (+1.6%).

Italian demand is extremely dynamic, as shown by the data of consumption, which should reach 4.6 billion euro, i.e. 28% more than in 2020. This result will drive both the manufacturers’ deliveries in Italy – which will indeed mark a 25% increase, amounting to 2.9 billion euro – and imports, which will go up by 33%, attaining 1.7 billion euro.

Barbara Colombo, president of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, pointed out: “Also considering the last months and, in particular, the order collection of Italian manufacturers, we had to revise our forecasts for the closing of 2021 presented during the Members’ Meeting of the Association last July, as they were no longer close to reality.

“On the other hand, - continued President Barbara Colombo - the performances achieved by Italian manufacturers in their order collection give a positive outlook not only for this year’s end 2021, but also for the first months of 2022”.

The index of the orders collected by Italian manufacturers in the second quarter of the current year, last available data, highlights a strong growth corresponding to 187% compared with the second quarter of 2020. (However, we should take into account that this period included the month of April, when there was a stop due to the lockdown and thus it represented a very difficult quarter). Domestic orders grew by 368% and foreign orders by 132% versus the period April-June 2020.

Moreover, a rise was registered in production capacity, whose index almost reached 80%. This figure is higher than that reported in the last quarter of 2019. Even the order portfolio increased to 7 months, actually returning to the record level of 2018. On average per year (6 months), the indicator stood at 6.8: even in this case, the figure is very close to that recorded in 2018.

“In the light of these surveyed data – concluded the president of UCIMU – we can say that the economic framework is extremely favourable for our country, as well as for the sector, also thanks to the Government incentives made available for those who purchase new production technology, 4.0 and of traditional type. This will clearly benefit the over 700 exhibitors – of whom 300 are Italian – of EMO MILANO 2021, which is always a booster of investments.”.

The Exhibition will open with the Inaugural Ceremony, at the Speakers Corner (Hall 5 B44-D31) of fieramilano Rho on Monday 4 October, starting from 10.30 am. The speakers of the meeting will be: Giorgio Metta, scientific director of IIT (Italian Technology Institute of Genoa); Luigi Galdabini, General Commissioner of EMO MILANO 2021; Hans-Martin Schneeberger, President of CECIMO; Enrico Pazzali, President of Fondazione Fiera Milano, Barbara Colombo, President of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE; Carlo Ferro, President of ICE-Italian Trade Agency; Luigi Di Maio, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (video contribution); Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Deputy Minister of the Ministry for Economic Development, in charge of Industrial Policies, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Made In Italy and Trade.
