2023 preliminary data

2023 still positive for the Italian machine tool, robot and automation industry that gets a new production record; thus the favorable trend that should be confirmed in 2024 is prolonged. 

As can be seen from the preliminary figures  compiled by the Economic Studies Department & Business Culture Centre of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, in 2023, production amounted to 7,560 million euros, an increase of 3.8% compared to the previous year. 

The result has been determined by the good course of the exports grown, of 10.3%, to 3.825 million euros. 

The export/production figure rose again, reaching 50.6%. 

On the foreign front, according to UCIMU data processing ISTAT, in the period January-August 2023 (the latest data available), the main markets for the Italian sector offer were: United States (356 million euros, +26.7%), Germany (217 million, +8.8%); China (163 million, +34%), France (138 million +32.1%), Poland (128 million, +14.7%). 

The deliveries of the Italian manufacturers on the domestic market were instead in slight contraction, stopping at 3,735 million euros, 2% less than in 2022. 

Deliveries and imports - these last ones in decrease of 4.5% to 2.385 million euros - have suffered from the reduction, even if minimal, of the consumption come down, of 3%, to 6.120 million euros.
